Everyone is giving me kudos and congrats and I have forgotten to give them to myself! I began the journey to teacher certification in 2014, while I was living in Korea. I finished the online program, student teaching at AHB for a semester, and my culminating week in the spring, one year later. Due to trying circumstances, I didn't begin to sit for exams until 2016, and just took the last one of three earlier this month! I passed all of them, though I had doubts and fears and had a difficult time focusing because of busy-ness and stress. But I did it!
I overcame so much to get this certification. It was a goal I set for myself, 3 years in the making! I had challenge after challenge thrown at me the past three years, and I barely --very, very literally --survived! I was hanging on to living, but barely, trying to find work and a place to live, suffering injuries and health issues again and again, starting new jobs, extricating myself from difficult situations, and limping along emotionally. But I did it! No one helped me (except my friends, of course!)
My original intention in earning a U.S. state teaching certification was to allow me to work abroad at any International School that offered U.S. curriculum in elementary education. It also provides me with additional credentials if I choose to remain stateside for any length of time. Well, we are all of us surprised at how long I have remained in ATX! And perhaps, I am the most surprised that I want to and choose to stay here longer! Who knows how long (boy, that thought scares the sh$$ out me!!!)
So congrats, Gina, on being awesome, on overcoming all the obstacles I've faced since 2013...congrats for surviving and then moving beyond survival to thriving! Congrats on achieving a goal set, even though it took 3 years instead of 1! You did it!
