Xi'an - 242 (purple ="heavily polluted")
Beijing - 161 (red ="moderately polluted")
Personally, I do not wish to breath even "lightly polluted" air. Either citizens here are ignorant or being lied to or they think they are immune. The results are already in with the amount of lung disease, asthma, and childhood illness. Let's see what the health stats are when these two generations - who ave been breathing poison for most of their lives - reach their 70s! Ugh!
Current studies show air has improved in the larger cities, but it is still 150-200 points higher than is safe and healthy to breathe!
Even in Xi'an-- a much smaller city than Chengdu-- the air was very polluted! Surprisingly, in Beijing, the air was clean for our entire visit during New Year's!
