No matter the world's weight or any other monkey on my back, within moments of stepping out for a run, I have clarity. Clean, crystal clear like the cerulean of deep ocean water with no land in sight, crisp and sharp as the 40 degree weather in which I run. As though a wave of well-being washes over me, when I run, I am cured of what ails my mind and heart. This the deepest secret of why I run; not for health maintenance or a slim figure, but to escape, literally - to run - from cares and into a world of sun and nature, appreciation, and to live as my heart pounds along with my feet. I enjoy the exhilaration, the challenge, the health, the fitness, but more so, I love the sense of freedom.
Within minutes, I feel restored, refreshed, invigorated. My mind clears, and whatever answer I needed, simply makes itself known. Running always reminds me why I run, and why I need to do it regularly and often. In the present, it reminds me, be in the present. And I am, and all is well. I love running.
