Doing nothing...doing everything

My drawing to the right is a Qing Dynasty Cloud Dragon.

While I try to do everything with school and life and balance both with rest and play, one of the passé temps I enjoy is drawing. I enjoy it, whether I am good at it or not is not only irrelevant, but I am the only judge of my work since I do it for myself. I hold similar thoughts on my writing and painting.

Drawing offers a sense of ease and focused relaxation; an opportunity to increase a skill through practice, and express my creativity. This one is still in progress: I will add clouds, talons, and the pearl with which this dragon plays. My inspiration is an insightful, playful, and entertaining book on Taoism by Qiguang Zhao, Do Nothing & Do Everything.

I love learning, and while I learn about Taoism (which a philosophy, not a religion--like Buddhism), I am also learning more about Chinese culture, tradition, and history. And dragons! Chinese dragons are associated with water, which is converse to Anglo-European myths, where they are monsters of fire and rage. I definitely prefer the playful Chinese version!
